Last weekend saw Peak XV Athletes competing in a range of triathlons across the North West and further afield. Performance of the day went to Simon Atkin at Southport Triathlon. The event was an age group qualifier for the ITU World Championships and as such it attracted a high quality field. Undeterred by the competition Simon completed the race in 2.13 finishing 3rd in the highly competitive 40-45 age group. This result was good enough to earn him qualification for the World Champs in Mexico later in the year.
Also racing at the seaside was Matt Dewhurst. Matt was looking to back up his recent string of strong performance with a good showing over the longer distance. Stomach issue on the run prevented Matt from capitalising on his great swim and bike with his usual strong run. Next stop for Matt Ironman UK!
Elsewhere Dave Marsh was racing for the first time since injuring his ankle by falling over a cone whilst taking part in a local Duathlon. Despite missing four weeks of training he finished the race with the 5th fastest run of the day. Enough to earn him 8th place overall.
Atrocious weather greeted the Brothers Grim at the Slateman triathlon in North Wales. Strong winds, torrential rain and freezing temperatures did not deter the team. Bragging rights for the first family member home went to Darren.
Quote of the day went to Terry. “Ive done four F****ng triathlons and for every one the weather has been s@@t”
Welcome to the world of UK triathlon!
