Athlete Profile

How long have you been involved in triathlon?
I have been involved in sport for over 37 years! I started competing from the age of 7 in swimming and running events.  I did my first triathlon in 2011.

Why did you decide to get a coach?
Although I was doing lots of training it was haphazard. I badly needed direction and structure to make the most of the effort I was putting in. Combining the 3 separate sports was challenging and I needed someone to provide time efficient training plan, which I could follow.

How did you come to hear about the coaching services that I offer?
Through personal recommendation.

What was the discipline that you needed to focus on?
Having come from a strong background in swimming and running it was the cycling that I needed to improve upon.

What were your goals for 2015?
To complete my first long distance event which was Ironman UK

How did the coaching you received help you to achieve your goal?
By providing a structured, detailed training plan which was designed around my other commitments and took into account the areas that I needed to focus on. Also I was able to attend the coached swim and indoor turbo sessions which proved invaluable.

How would you describe the coaching support that you received?
Helpful and positive. The training was tough but the way the plan developed gradually reduced the risk of overtraining and injury was fantastic. Occasionally the training was fun!

What were your goals for 2016?
To complete Ironman UK again and to hopefully qualify for Kona!

Coaches Comment

Catherine has a lifetime of endurance training with a great background in both swimming and running.  She approached me in 2013  to work with her to develop a structure and focus to the training she was already undertaking. Looking through her initial assesssment it became clear that what was holding Cath back was the random nature of her training. Her training diary demonstrated a great deal of commitment and effort but very little structure. Their was no periodisation and individual sessions had no specific purpose.

In 2103 Catherine finished the Rossendale Triathlon in a overall time of 1:30 with a bike split of just over the hour. One year later in far worse condition she finished the whole event in a time of 1:22 with a bike split 8 minutes quicker than the previous year. This improvement saw Cath pick up the trophy for the over all women winner

In 2014 Catherine signed up to Ironman UK. The focus for the years training was to help Catherine get her race day pacing right, and to learn to control the obvious power and aggression that she has on the bike. This worked perfectly and Catherine finished 3rd in her age group in a time of 12:01.   If she hadn’t crashed on her bike she would have been heading to Hawaii

Cath has the Ironman bug and will be racing again at IM UK in 2016.  Our main focus will be bike handling !
