Athlete Profile

How long have you been involved in triathlon?
I have been involved in triathlon on and off for about 15 years now, since I stopped playing rugby due to injury. I needed to keep fit and active, as well as be involved in something competitive, and to have a reason to train.

Why did you decide to get a coach?
I decided to get a coach last year. The races I had competed in over the previous two years, having self trained, I felt were something of a disaster. I was close to packing it all in. Then decided to have on more go but to do it properly and get coached. This would give motivation, structure, provide guidance as I was aware I did not know much, and just sort of drifted along without training hard but not developing.

How did you come to hear about Peak XV Tri Coaching?
I was talking to an acquaintance who was coached by Garrie. He recommended Garrie to me as he felt he could make a difference to the way I trained and re motivate me. We met up and had a informal chat and have been coached ever since.

What was the discipline you needed to focus on?
I needed to concentrate more on cycling mainly, but to also concentrate on consistency and structure with training as a whole package.

What were your goals for 2015
Complete IM Copenhagen. This is first IM for me having previously completed only couple of half IM events.

How did the coaching you receive help you achieve your goal?
If someone had told me I would go sub 13 hours I would have thought they were having me on! Garrie helped me by providing what I sought ie, structured, meaningful, and flexible training plan that I could fit in around work/family. Somewhere to obtain advice and support around all things triathlon. It being based locally provided the opportunity to train with others which makes a nice change!

How would you describe the coaching support that you received from Peak XV Tri Coaching?
I find the coaching provided by Garrie to be achievable, and based on what I can actually do. He does not set me training plans there impossible to complete. They are progressive focussed, however I am left to manage them as I see fit. At the end of the day I need to do the work not Garrie. He provides advice and feedback when asked or he feels it’s needed. I find this a good balance.

What were your goals for 2016?
To focus on running and complete an ultra trail marathon.

Did you achieve them?

Yes I completed two ultra trail marathons
