Bolton Iron Distance Training Weekend May 2021

For the fifth year running Peak XV Tri Coaching will join forces with Bolton’s local triathletes to host a Ironman training weekend over the 21st  – 23rd  May 2021. The weekend will focus specifically on the Bolton Ironman UK event and provide invaluable advice, information and support to ensure your race day is as stress free as possible.
The Bolton event is logistically quite challenging with two separate transitions, limited parking at the swim venue and a bike course which is both technical and complicated to follow. Our aim for the weekend is to ensure that you reach the start line as relaxed as possible and you are ready to focus on your race.
There will be plenty of time to ask any questions you may have, everything from where your supporters can see you during the day – through to where the nearest toilets are at the finish area. No question will be left unanswered. The tone for the weekend will be lighthearted, fun and informal so that everyone has a great time as well as feeling confident and prepared for the big day.

What will the weekend involve?

The weekend includes a training or coached swim  in Pennington Flash, supported ride of a loop of the bike course, guided run of the run course and the opportunity to familiarise yourself with both transition areas and the town centre finish.

Also included in the weekend will be:

  • Friday night open water pool based swim session
  • informal workshops – covering in detail each aspect of the swim, bike and run
  • free bike check by our own professional mechanic
  • event swim cap
  • Saturday Lunch
  • free pass to use the excellent facilities at Bolton Arena including the gym and spa 
  • support vehicles on the cycle
  • the chance to ask all your questions to qualified coaches and experienced triathletes who know every detail of the UK event.
  • For each of the practical sessions participants will be split into smaller groups with a ratio of 1 coach/instructor per 4 participants. This will ensure that everyone is with similar ability athletes and means we can cater for all levels of participants.

Your bespoke training plan will be written specifically for you taking into account your current fitness, experience and ambition for the Bolton race. The plan will be written and delivered to you weekly via your own online coaching account with Training Peaks.

Places for the weekend are limited to 20 so an early entry is recommended. 

Where is the weekend being held?

Our base for the weekend is Bolton Arena. The Arena is a premier quality multi-purpose sports facility boasting state of the art gym, tennis, badminton and squash courts and 400m running track.  There is plenty of free car parking available for those wishing to drive to Bolton. For those wishing to use public transport, Bolton Arena is 100m from Bolton Horwich Parkway train station which itself is a short journey from Manchester Piccadilly via Bolton.

Who are the hosts for the weekend?

On hand to welcome you to Bolton and answer all of your questions, provide advice and reassurance where needed will be members of Peak XV Tri coaching team. The team includes highly experienced and qualified coaches and triathletes with unparalleled knowledge of all things IM Bolton.  One thing they all have in common is that they all know exactly what it feels like to race at Bolton, and understand the stresses that this logistically challenging race can bring. Also part of the team is our own professional bike mechanic on hand to fix any minor issues you may have over the weekend.

To stay or not to stay?

For those wishing to stay over in Bolton there are two Premier Inns located within walking distance of Bolton Arena and several other hotels situated in Bolton Town Centre.

The Saver rate at both Premier Inns is currently £50.00 per night. (this is per room rather than per person) It excludes breakfast but there are plenty of breakfast options both at Bolton Arena and locally.

How much is the weekend, and how to book and pay?

Early bird cost is £99 (until 31st December 2020)

Your place will be secured following receipt of a £50 deposit. (We realise that circumstances change and people may need to withdraw from the race and therefor also the weekend so all deposits are fully refundable until 1st April 2021)

Last year some of the participants created a WhatsApp group which they used to chat with each other about the weekend and the race.
