Peak XV Coaching Philosophy

Triathlon is a demanding sport! When I carry out the initial 1-1 assessment with clients one common concern that people often have is how they are going to be able to fit the training into their current lifestyles. Most of the people I coach have pretty full lives already. Many with demanding jobs, demanding kids and busy lives. The prospect of trying to squeeze an 6 hour bike rides into an already full week while maintaining a good life balance is daunting.
Whilst triathlon is an important part in their lives, it is rarely their main priority. 
Often clients have previously tried to follow generic training plans downloaded from the internet or have worked with other coaches who have set unrealistic programmes.

Over the years that I have been coaching and competing I have come to the conclusion that more is rarely better. The key is utilising every minute of training and making every training session count.
The fundamental basis of the coaching that I offer can be summed up as TEST which stands for:

Time  Efficient  Specific  Training

Time:  Time is of the essence. Rarely do we have the luxury of endless hours to train and recover. Kids need collecting from school, the car needs a MOT and the dog needs walking. The plans provided are based around the training time you have available each week. Each session is written ensuring that the best use is made of the time available.
Efficient:  Efficiency in training is the aim. Each session is written ensuring that the best use is made of the time available to train.  Getting the maximum training effect from the minimum amount of time. For that reason training plans that I write do not include junk miles or inefficient sessions.
Specific:  Every session has to have a specific purpose working towards your goals. For example; if yourA race involves a hilly bike course then sessions will include hills reps, strength work and descending bike handling skills.
Training:  Train don’t exercise!
